City Council Meeting

January 7, 2008
City Council Chambers

7:00 p.m.
1. Roll Call. Councilors Bennett, Black, Blanchard, Bouchard, Mayor Bouley, Councilors Coen, Keach, Lemieux, McClure, Nyhan, Patten, St. Hilaire, Shurtleff, Stetson and Werner were present.
2. City Clerk Janice Bonenfant performed the ceremonial swearing in of Mayor Bouley.
3. Mayor Bouley performed the ceremonial swearing in of Members of City Council.
4. Inaugural Address by Mayor Bouley.
Mayor Bouley addressed members of City Council, staff as well as members of the public with his inaugural remarks.
5. Nominations for Mayor Pro Tem.
Councilor Lemieux moved to nominate Councilor St. Hilaire to the position of Mayor Pro Tem for 2008-2009. Councilor Bennett seconded the motion.
Councilor Lemieux spoke to his motion indicating he felt strongly that Councilor St. Hilaire would represent City Council very well as Mayor Pro Tem, noting that his professional, articulate, enthusiastic qualities along with his ability to run a good meeting were strong attributes he would bring to the position. Councilor Lemieux asked all members of City Council to support his motion.
6. Election of Mayor Pro Tem.
Action: Councilor Lemieux’s motion to appoint Councilor St. Hilaire to the position of Mayor Pro Tem was unanimously approved.
7. Remarks by Mayor Pro Tem.
Mayor Pro Tem St. Hilaire thanked members of City Council for his appointment to the position of Mayor Pro Tem stating it would be an honor and privilege to serve the City Council in this manner. Mayor Pro Tem St. Hilaire thanked his family and friends for their support. He further indicated his love for the City indicating he looked forward to the future as a member of City Council.
8. Comments by Members of City Council.
Newly elected Ward Eight City Councilor Dick Patten indicated he was looking forward to representing Ward Eight voters. He thanked his family and friends for all the encouragement and support that they provided while he ran and was elected to City Council.
Councilor Blanchard thanked the public for their support in electing her to her fourth consecutive term as a member of City Council, noting she planned to stay involved in Council until the Tannery development project was complete.
Councilor Nyhan thanked the residents of Ward Seven as well as members of his family in re-electing him to another term as the Ward Seven City Councilor. He also noted for the public record that a Friends of Rollins Park committee was being convened encouraging residents to contact him if they are interested in being involved.
Newly elected Ward Ten City Councilor Fred Keach thanked his family as well as residents in Ward Ten for their support.
9. There being no additional Council business, Councilor Nyhan moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:25 p.m.
