CIP#283 - LOUDON ROAD SIGNAL AND SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS:
October 16, 2009 Update:
Project construction is essentially complete. New pedestrian signals and crosswalks are now in operation from Stickney Avenue to Fort Eddy Road. Pedestrian signal heads feature a "countdown timer" that operates during the “FLASHING DON'T WALK” period and indicates the number of seconds remaining to finish crossing the street. Traffic signal phasing and timing modifications have also been made to intersections along Loudon Road, from Main Street to the Everett Arena driveways, to better synchronize the signals and reduce the number of stops. Staff will continue to monitor and fine-tune the new signal system operation.

October 2, 2009 Update:
Installation of new pedestrian signals and crosswalks in the Exit 14 area is nearing completion. “WALK/DON’T WALK” signals will provide for pedestrian crossings of streets and ramps between Stickney Avenue and Fort Eddy Road. The flashing “DON'T WALK” display will feature new countdown timer displays that will indicate to pedestrians the number of seconds left to cross the street. The pedestrian crosswalk on Loudon Road at Fort Eddy Road will be discontinued and replaced by a crosswalk on Loudon Road at Stickney Avenue. Informational signage for pedestrians will be placed at key crosswalk locations.

September 18, 2009 Update:
Late next week, weather permitting, City and NH Department of Transportation staff will reconstruct the traffic signal control cabinets at the two intersections on the west side of the I-93 overpass at Exit 14. Changes in signal timing and sequence will also be made at the Main Street/Loudon Road/Centre Street intersection. Work will occur during evening hours and temporary intersection traffic control will be maintained by police officers. Work also continues on the installation of new pedestrian signal poles and related equipment through the interchange area.
August 7, 2009 Update:
In the Exit 14 area, construction of sidewalk and curb improvements, as well as placement of signal pole foundations and underground electrical conduit, is complete. The City's Fire Alarm Division and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation Traffic Division also completed reconstruction of the traffic signal control cabinets on the Fort Eddy Road side of the I-93 overpass. The coming weeks will see additional electrical work, including installation of traffic signal poles, pedestrian signal heads and push buttons, and reconstruction of the traffic signal controllers on the Stickney Avenue side of the I-93 overpass.

July 17, 2009 Update:
This past week, crews installed new foundations for pedestrian signal poles west of the I-93 overpass. Next week, construction activity will include pole foundations and trenching for electrical conduit east of the overpass. Curb and sidewalk modifications will also be done at select locations between Stickney Avenue and Fort Eddy Road. During construction, the contractor will maintain access to all ramps and cross-streets in the Exit 14 vicinity.

July 10, 2009 Update:
Construction will begin next week on traffic signal and sidewalk improvements along the section of Loudon Road in the vicinity of I-93 Exit 14. This project will coordinate traffic signals along Loudon Road from N. Main Street to the Everett Arena driveways, as well as enhance sidewalks and pedestrian crossing signals from Stickney Avenue to Fort Eddy Road. Engineering and Fire Alarm Division staff are collaborating with NHDOT on implementing the signal control modifications, and a signal contractor will be constructing sidewalk and pedestrian signal improvements. This project is fully funded by development impact fees and donations and should be completed in September.
