FY 2009 CIP #85 – WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT:
July 24, 2009 Update:
HUTCHINS STREET WATER VALVE REPLACEMENT: Contractor F. L. Merrill Construction and City staff will be replacing the water valve on Hutchins Street from 9:00 PM on Monday, July 27th, until 8:00 AM on Tuesday, July 28th. This work was originally scheduled to be done in May, but had to be postponed. Night work is required due to the high water demands during the day. During the scheduled work, Hutchins Street will be closed between Garrison Street and North State Street, and traffic will be detoured to Knight Street. Affected residents on North State Street, Hutchins Street and Knight Street have been notified of the project. Staff is coordinating with the Fire Department and the Boscawen Water Precinct to ensure adequate water supply should any emergencies occur during this time.
June 5, 2009 Update:
Testing of the main should be completed early next week. Pending the contractor's schedule, services will be reinstated to the main toward the end of the week.
May 22, 2009 Update:
The contractor, F.L. Merrill Construction, will continue to install new ductile pipe on Windemere Terrace. Testing and chlorination of the newly installed line will also take place.
May 8, 2009 Update:
HUTCHINS STREET WATER VALVE REPLACEMENT: The contractor and City staff will be replacing the water valve on Hutchins Street from 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13th, until 9:00 AM on Thursday, May 14th. Night work is required due to the high water demands during the day. During the scheduled work, Hutchins Street will be closed between Garrison Street and North State Street, and traffic will be detoured to Knight Street.

November 21, 2008 Update:
The new water main on Rum Hill Road is complete. Next week will focus on removing the temporary water main on Rum Hill Road and cleaning up before the Thanksgiving Holiday.
November 14, 2008 Update:
The contractor is working on setting the new fire hydrants on Rum Hill Road. Once this is complete, they will test and chlorinate the new water main. Water services will then be connected to the new water main. Paving of water trenches on Pleasant Street and Tremblay Court should also occur next week.
November 7, 2008 Update:
The contractor is in the process of reconnecting residents to the newly installed water main on Kent Street. Next week, replacement of the water main on Rum Hill Road will begin.
October 31, 2008 Update:
The contractor has completed the final paving and parking space striping on Park Street. Installation of the new water main on Kent Street and Rum Hill Road will continue next week.

October 24, 2008 Update:
Park Street will be closed on Monday and Tuesday of next week in order for final paving to be completed. After the paving is complete, the contractor will move back to Rum Hill Road to continue the water main replacement project.

Night work on Park Street
October 17, 2008 Update:
Monday through Wednesday of next week, the contractor will begin the water main replacement at the intersection of Rum Hill Road and Pleasant Street. This work will occur in the evening and early morning hours, from 9:00 PM to 10:00 AM. Traffic will be restricted to one lane during this time. At the end of the week, the contractor will remobilize to Park Street to prep the road for paving. Park Street, between North State and Main Streets, will be closed to traffic during this time. The closure will continue throughout the night so paving can commence the following morning.
October 10, 2008 Update:
The contractor is focusing on connecting residents to the temporary water main on Kent Street and Rum Hill Road. Park Street is scheduled to be paved toward the end of next week pending National Grid's completion of the gas main replacement project.
October 3, 2008 Update:
The contractor has finished connecting all the water services on Park Street to the new water main. Next week, they will relocate to Rum Hill Road to set up the temporary water lines.
September 26, 2008 Update:
Next week, the contractor, F. L. Merrill, will continue work on Park Street. This work will include flushing and sampling the water main, installing a new catch basin, and changing out catch basins and manhole frames. Towards the end of next week, existing water services will be reconnected to the new water main. Reclaiming of Rum Hill Road and temporary water line installations are expected next week as well.
September 19, 2008 Update:
In conjunction with the water main replacement project, Park Street will be closed to traffic at night. This is due to the low evening traffic volume, the time it takes to open and close the road daily, and the construction equipment being stored on the street. The openings at North Main Street and North State Street will be closed with barricades so that emergency vehicles will be able to have access. This evening closure is expected to last until the end of September.

Water Main Replacement on Park Street
September 5, 2008 Update:
F.L. Merrill Construction will begin the water main replacement on Park Street, starting at the Main Street end. This work will continue over the next few weeks, during which time Park Street will remain closed to through traffic.

August 29, 2008 Update:
The contractor, F. L. Merrill Construction, has been working on replacing the water main on Park Street. This work will continue next week at the intersection of Park Street and North State Street. Park Street, from North Main Street to North State Street, will be closed to traffic.

August 15, 2008 Update:
F.L. Merrill, Inc. has been awarded the contract
for this year’s water main replacement project. This work will include replacing
approximately 60 feet of water main on the east side of North State Street
beginning on August 25, 2008 and ending on Wednesday August 27, 2008. This work
will result in the loss of on-street parking on both sides of North State Street
from the North State Street entrance to the State House northerly to Park Street
to accommodate two-way traffic. On Wednesday August 29, 2008 the contractor will
begin replacing the water main on Park Street between Main Street and North
State Street. This work is scheduled to continue through September 19, 2008
during which time Park Street will be closed to traffic Monday through Friday,
7:00 am - 7:00 pm and a few Saturdays. Parking on Park Street will be prohibited
during this scheduled work. All businesses affected by this work have been
notified of the project impacts and contractor's construction schedule.
June 2008 Update:
Please note that this project is subject to City Council approval of funds scheduled for July 14, 2008.
Pending that funding approval the Water Main Replacement Project will begin in mid-July. The affected streets will be Rum Hill Road (Pleasant Street to School Street), Kent Street (Rum Hill Road to #4 Kent Street), Park Street (North State Street to North Main Street), and Hutchins Street.
There will be water service disruptions during the project. You may experience traffic delays, but we will do all we can to keep that to a minimum.
Engineering staff is finalizing the in-house design and bid documents for the
2009 Water Main Replacement Project. This project will commence in mid-July and
will consist of replacing the water mains on Rumhill Road, Kent Street and Park
Street. The estimated cost of the project is $550,000 and bids are due to be
received at the end of March.
