Hero's Recreational Bridge

August 15, 2008 Update:

Construction continues at the Hero's Recreational Bridge over the Contoocook River. Concrete was poured on the center pier and the Mast Yard abutment this past week while initial assembly of the bridge structure began on the Lehtinen Park side. Assembly of the bridge includes the 40' launching nose and about 100' of actual structure. Representatives from the bridge manufacturer are scheduled to be on site to review the assembly and provide the certified erection plan. The bridge structure is on the launch rollers and ready to go. Assembly will continue next week in hopes to launch the bridge in the coming weeks. Below you can see part of the assembled structure and the incomparable, hard-working David Murray (standing on structure) and his general contractor Jim Burdette.

August 1, 2008 Update:

David Murray and group began their quest to construct the recreational bridge over the Contoocook River, essentially connecting the Gus Lehtinen Park to Mast Yard State Forest.  Contractors mobilized this past week and began work on the concrete abutment caps, bridge launch pads and center pier cap.  Concrete for the easterly abutment was poured on Tuesday.  Concrete pours for the center pier and westerly abutment is expected next week.  Engineers from Acrow Bridge are expected to be on site next week to review bridge laydown areas, launch areas and components.  David Murray reports the bridge assembly and launch is tentatively scheduled for late August.
