CIP#440 - School Street Retaining Wall
November 13, 2009 Update:
The railing has been received from the manufacturer and is being installed by the contractor. The installation should be complete by the end of this week. With the installation of this railing, the project will be complete.

October 23, 2009 Update:
The railing for the retaining wall is expected to be delivered from the manufacturer on Tuesday. Installation of the railing will occur shortly thereafter.
October 2, 2009 Update:
The contractor has completed construction of the School Street retaining wall and the sidewalk in front of the wall has been repaved. In the coming weeks, the contractor will complete landscaping of the disturbed areas. The sidewalk remains closed to pedestrians until the railing is installed.

September 4, 2009 Update:
The delivery and installation of the top caps to complete the retaining wall is expected during the second week of September. Once the top caps are installed, temporary railings will be installed, with the permanent railings expected to be delivered and installed in six weeks. Site clean-up and landscaping will follow the railing installation.
August 28, 2009 Update:
The contractor is continuing work on the construction of the new retaining wall. The picture below shows the last coarse of block being placed. The top caps will cover these blocks to complete the project. The current traffic detours will remain in effect.

August 20, 2009 Update:
The contractor has completed the removal of the old retaining wall. Next week, the area will be prepared for installation of the new wall. The traffic detour around the construction area will remain in effect.

August 7, 2009 Update:
The Engineering Services Division of the Community Development Department has awarded a contract to L. A. Brochu, Inc. of Concord, NH; to replace a City owned 4-5 foot retaining wall located on School Street. This retaining wall supports the sidewalk and roadway and is showing signs of failure. During the reconstruction of the wall (tentatively scheduled for August 13th - 28th) School Street, between Huntington Street and Rumford Street, will be closed to traffic. A traffic detour will be established on Warren Street and Centre Street.
