bidding process. The City will open bids on Friday, July 23rd and award the
next Phase shortly thereafter. Thanks to all the residents, commuters, cyclists
and pedestrians for their patience during the Phase II construction.

July 01, 2010 Update:
Next week
on the U.S. Route 3 corridor reconstruction project, the contractor will
be observing the Independence Day holiday and as such, no work will be occuring on Monday, July 5th. The remainder of the week
will entail completion of the sidewalk paving and loam placement. We also
tentatively expect long line and crosswalk striping in the section base paved
this year, from Knight Street to Lake Street. One-lane traffic conditions
will persist throughout the week in the aforementioned section of North State Street,
delays are to be expected.

June 25, 2010 Update:
Work
on the Phase II section of the Route 3 corridor continues to progress, with
next week scheduled for paving of sidewalks and construction of concrete ADA tipdown
ramps. We also expect to begin loam placement, with hydro seeding soon to
follow, and general site cleanup. As with past weeks, this work will require
one lane traffic conditions to persist on North State Street; from Knight Street to Lake Street.
National
Grid and R. H. White Construction will begin work on Lake Street to upgrade their main and services
to high pressure. This work will require one-lane traffic on Lake St. with minor
delays to motorists to be expected.

June 18, 2010 Update:
Next
week on the Route 3 reconstruction project; the contractor will be continuing
efforts to reconstruct and repave driveway aprons. Sidewalks have been
excavated to subgrade and we anticipate crushed
gravel placement and grading as well during the upcoming week. Catch basin
grates have been raised to base pavement grade in the past week, with manhole
frames and water valve boxes soon to follow. This work will be taking place on North State Street;
between Knight Street
and Lake Street.
One-lane traffic conditions will continue throughout the week, with minor
traffic delays to be expected. We thank you for your patience during traffic
delays due to the reconstruction project.

June 11, 2010 Update:
With
the completion of the binder course pavement and installation of vertical
granite street curbing completed, the contractor will now focus efforts on
constructing sidewalks and driveway aprons. This work will be occuring on North
State Street; from Knight Street to Lake Street. One-lane traffic conditions
will persist throughout this construction and delays are to be anticipated in
this area. With the road now paved, we would ask that the motoring public
respect everyone's safety and please slow down as you commute through
the work zone.

June 4, 2010 Update:
With
the section of North State Street
and Knight Street
newly base paved, the contractor will now focus efforts on reseting vertical granite street curbing, addressing
driveways and building sidewalks. These efforts will still require one
lane traffic conditions, and delays are to be expected. Your
patience is greatly appreciated as we continue to construct these much
needed improvements to the North
State Street corridor.
National
Grid and R. H. White Construction will be wrapping up the construction on K Street and Hillcrest Avenue
shortly and final restoration of disturbed areas should follow soon after.

May 28, 2010 Update:
Next
week the contractor will be fine grading and base paving the section of North State Street
recently box constructed; from Knight
Street to Lake Street and Knight Street itself. One lane
traffic conditions will persist in this area, with major delays anticipated
during hours of operation; typically 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The public is advised to
seek alternate routes whenever possible.
National
Grid and R. H. White Construction continue gas service relays to customers on
Peabody, K and View Streets. Minor traffic delays are to be expected on the
affected streets.

May 21, 2010 Update:
Next week
the contractor will continue road box excavation on North State Street; between Lake Street and Knight Street. As with the past week,
traffic will be restricted to a single lane during hours of operation,
typically 7 AM to 7 PM. Major delays are to be anticipated and we recommend the
public seek alternate routes, whenever possible.
Work will
also begin on Knight Street
next week, with the removal of the south bound slip lane to North State Street, and box construction
extending three hundred feet west from North State Street. The remainder
of the pavement will be reclaimed to Hutchins Street. Please be advised that
their will be a granite curb "bumpout"
constructed in future weeks at Knight and Hutchins Streets in an effort to
"tee" the intersection and manage traffic speeds on Knight Street.
Temporary reflective orange pylons have been put in place representing the new
intersection alignment in an effort to prepare motorists for this future
improvement.
National
Grid and R. H. White Construction continue relaying gas services to
the new high pressure mains installed on the side streets of North State Street, in the upcoming Phase
3 section. Minimal traffic disruptions are to be expected in these areas.

May 7, 2010 Update:
With
the completion of drainage and sanitary sewer work, the contractor will begin
construction of the road box. This work will entail removal of the asphalt road
surface, underlying concrete slabs, excavation of the existing materials
beneath, and placement of new gravel base courses. This work will be taking
place on North State Street;
between Knight Street
and Lake Street.
The public is advised that travel will be restricted to one-lane at all hours
of operation and major delays are to be expected in the affected area. Please
seek an alternate route, if possible.
National
Grid and R. H. White Construction have completed gas main installations on the
side streets off of North State
Street, and will begin relaying individual gas
service lines to customers in these same neighborhoods. Minor traffic
disruptions are to be anticipated related to this work.
April 30, 2010 Update:
With
the completion of the new storm sewer trunk line, the contractor will continue
focus upon installation of new catch basins in the section of North State Street
between Knight Street

like to acknowledge all the residents, pedestrians, cyclists and commuters that
have been impacted by the construction.
Their input and patience have been greatly appreciated throughout the
duration of the project.
December 11, 2009 Update:
With the
street and regulatory sign installations completed and the onset of winter
snow, major construction operations have ceased on the corridor. The contractor has only a few punch list
items to complete next week. This work will take place on North State Street, between Sewalls Falls Road
and Hutchins Street,
as weather permits. In traffic signal
news, the contractor has informed the City that the new signal
installation should take place next week at both the Fisherville Road/Bog Road and North State
Street/Sewalls Falls Road intersections.
The public is advised to expect minor delays in these two areas during
this work. Please stay tuned to www.concordnh.gov and the on-site message
boards for up-to-date changes regarding the corridor.

December 4, 2009 Update:
Next week,
the contractor will continue clean-up efforts on North State Street, from Sewalls Falls Road
to Knight Street. One-lane traffic conditions will continue in
this area. The regulatory street signs
and the remainder of the pavement markings will be installed next week as
well. In traffic signal news, the
contractor has informed us that a delay with the supplier will cause the new
signal installations at the Fisherville
Road/Bog Road and North State Street/Sewalls Falls
Road intersections to be postponed until the week of December 14th. Updates will be posted on the City’s website
at www.concordnh.gov and on the on-site
message boards.

November 25, 2009 Update:
Next
week the contractor will continue to pave sidewalks on North State Street, place loam in grass
panels and perform site clean-up from Sewalls
Falls Road south to Knight Street. One-lane traffic conditions will persist in
this area. With the closure of the Sewalls
Falls bridge, we expect
increased delay times during hours of operation; typically 7:00 AM to 5:00
PM. We will do everything in our power
to mitigate major delays, but with the anticipated increase in traffic volume to
the Route 3 corridor, they may prove unavoidable.
Upon
completion of the sidewalk paving, the contractor will complete the fog line
striping and cross walk bars on North
State Street and finish the line work at the Sewalls Falls Road
intersection. Permanent street sign
installations should also begin around the same time.
In traffic
signal news, we expect the mast arms and related signal equipment to begin to
be installed at both the Fisherville
Road/Bog Road and North State Street/Sewalls Falls
Road intersections in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned to the City’s website www.concordnh.gov and the on-site message
boards for pending details.

November 20, 2009 Update:
Along the North
State Street corridor, the contractor continues to
build new sidewalks in the area between Sewalls Falls Road and Knight Street. One-lane traffic conditions will continue in
this area during the hours of operation; typically 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Residential driveway aprons are being paved
as quickly as possible. Many thanks to the public for bearing with us
during the radial granite curb installations.
With the continued warmer than normal fall weather, we expect to continue
paving the remainder of the driveways and then begin paving sidewalks next
week.

November 13, 2009 Update:
With the
completion of the new granite curbing, the contractor will continue to focus on
construction of the sidewalks along both sides of the North State Street corridor. Paving of the sidewalks and driveway aprons
should occur over the next two weeks.
The masonry subcontractor is expected on-site at the end of next week to
begin raising the catch basins and manhole frames to base grade for the winter.
Delays can be expected due to one-lane traffic conditions on North State Street from Sewalls Falls Road
to Knight Street. As always, the public’s patience is
appreciated as we work to complete the remaining construction prior to the
onset of winter.

November 6, 2009 Update:
With
the placement of thermoplastic pavement markings on the Fisherville Road section of the Route 3
reconstruction project, the contractor need only address final sign and traffic
signal installations and minor punch list items remaining in this area. Many thanks to the residents, businesses, pedestrians,
cyclists and commuters of Fisherville Road for their patience during the
delays created by the major construction efforts of this past season.
The
contractor has placed the "winter base" pavement on the North State Street
section of the work. Installation of
granite curbing and reconstruction of sidewalks will continue on both sides of
the street from Sewalls Falls Road
to Knight Street. The public can expect one-lane traffic
conditions and delays to persist in this area until the completion of the
work. Drivers are urged to slow down in
the construction zone, for their own safety and the safety of the workers.

Fisherville Road Ravine fill opposite Hutchins Street
October 30, 2009 Update:
Placement of the winter binder coarse pavement on North State Street,
from Sewalls Falls Road south

planned for
today. Once this is accomplished, the contractor will focus on the
installation of vertical granite curbing in the newly paved area. One-lane traffic conditions will continue in
the work area and delays are to be expected, except as noted below.
With City
elections occurring on Tuesday, and the proximity of the work zone to
the polling locations, the contractor will not be working in North State Street
on Election Day (11/3). Work will
continue on the backfill and slope construction in the ravine opposite Hutchins Street. This work will not impact parking and will
have very little impact to traffic flow during hours of construction
operations. We expect two-lane traffic
conditions at all times.
On Fisherville Road,
placement of thermoplastic pavement markings, including cross walks, symbols
and stop bars will be continuing early next week.
October 23, 2009 Update:
Construction
of new storm sewer infrastructure continues on North State Street, from Tenney Street
to Knight Street. One-lane traffic conditions will continue in
this area with delays to be expected. We
encourage all who can seek alternate routes to do so. The pipe and drainage structure installations
are complete. The contractor is planning
to begin base paving of the graveled section of Route 3, from just north of Sewalls Falls Road

The contractor is currently working in the area of Sewalls Falls Road and will be proceeding
south. The installation of new storm sewer infrastructure will also
continue from Tenney
Street to Hutchins Street. As many of the
commuters and residents of the impacted neighborhoods have experienced,
traffic delays are upwards of twenty to thirty minutes in length during peak
hours. We encourage drivers to seek alternate
routes whenever possible, as the major construction operations will continue
for several weeks.
On
the Fisherville Road
section of the reconstruction work, we are pleased to announce that the final
wear course pavement overlay will take place on either Wednesday or Thursday of
next week, as weather permits. The
paving operation will take place on Fisherville
Road from just south of Manor/Borough Road to the Sylvester Street
area. In an attempt to reduce traffic
delays, road box construction on North
State Street will be put on hold during the
paving. As stated above, we would
encourage commuters to avoid this area during the paving operation. Please stay tuned to the on-site message boards
for updates to the final paving schedule. We appreciate the public’s
patience during these often frustrating delays.

September 18, 2009 Update:

improvements to the Route 3 corridor are nearly complete. The
pedestrian refuge islands are in place, as well as the concrete tip downs with
detectable warning panels. The sidewalk along the west side of Fisherville Road is
nearing completion with only small gaps remaining to be paved. The contractor will continue, as weather
permits, to place loam in the newly created grass panel and finalize the work
in this area.
Phase II
improvements to the Route 3 corridor are scheduled to begin in the next
week. This second phase of the reconstruction of Fisherville Road/North State Street will
begin at Bog Road
and progress south to Lake Street.
The contractor, Continental Paving, Inc., will focus on removal of granite
curb, asphalt road surface and the underlying concrete slab.
Traffic delays are anticipated and alternate routes should be sought if
possible. The public’s patience with this necessary work is greatly
appreciated.

April 17, 2009 Update:
Construction along Fisherville Road
continued this week, including installation of curb throughout the remaining
portions of the Phase I section of the project. The contractor has begun
addressing base paving of the sidewalks, curb trench patch, and driveway
aprons. Work will also focus on completing the new pedestrian refuge islands
along Fisherville Road.
Final restoration of disturbed areas with loam and grass seed should be
expected in the upcoming weeks. The gas company's subcontractor continues to
make good progress with the installation of a new main from Elijah Street northerly. The public’s
continued patience with traffic delays is appreciated.

April 10, 2009 Update:
Construction
of the Phase 1 improvements continue with curb and sidewalk construction along Fisherville Road.
Next week’s work will include constructing sidewalks from Scott Avenue to Bog Road, behind the newly installed
granite curbing; and continuing to address punch list items remaining from
winter shutdown. R.H. White has begun installation of a new gas main at Sylvester Street,
working north to complete the gas main section just south of Bog Road. As always, traffic delays are
to be expected. As a reminder to the traveling public, please slow down prior
to entering the construction zones - delays are frustrating but speeding
through a work zone is costly and dangerous.

April 3, 2009 Update:
Construction started this past
week along Fisherville Road
in conjunction with the US Route 3 corridor project. Work focused on
construction of sidewalks and shoulders along the west side of the roadway just
south of Cremin
Street. Next week construction will continue on new sidewalk along the
west side of Fisherville Road from Scott Avenue south to Bog Road. Curbing installation is expected to begin next
week along the newly constructed sections of sidewalk. Continental Paving
will also focus on punchlist items remaining from the
winter suspension of work. National Grid and their contractor R.H. White
will mobilize and begin construction next week of new gas main from Bog Road south to Sewalls Falls Road. Traffic delays are to be anticipated.

March 27, 2009 Update:
As
better weather approaches, so does the 2009 construction season. The Engineering Services Division is pleased
to announce the start of construction on the US Route 3 Corridor on
Monday, March 30th. Continental Paving
will continue its efforts on completing improvements on the first phase of the
project (Fisherville Road
from Bog Road
to Borough Road). Work is expected to begin on the second phase
of the project (Fisherville Road
and North State Street
from Bog Road
to Lake Street)
in mid to late April. Message boards
were deployed on Wednesday notifying the traveling public of the impending
work. Details on actual construction
sequencing and work area phasing will follow. Motorists should expect delays
during construction and are encouraged to seek alternative routes.
