Bicycle Patrol - Police Department - City of Concord NH

Bicycle Patrol

The Bicycle Unit is tasked with a number of specific responsibilities.  They provide regular patrol, on bicycle, in all areas of Concord.  The bikes make them more versatile and enable officers to patrol areas where the normal police patrol vehicle cannot go.  This has enabled the department to provide better service to recreation and other areas of Concord.  Businesses, parking lots, hotels, motels, and apartment complexes receive special attention in the prevention and detection of vandalism and crime.  The bike patrol officers also respond to regular calls for service in areas they are patrolling.  The members of this unit engage in proactive patrol in an effort to prevent crime by high visibility, presence, and enforcement activity.

The major advantage held by our bicycle patrol officers is their face-to-face contact with the citizens. The bicycle unit strives to make the most of this advantage by favorable contacts with citizens who live and work in the city, as well as with our numerous daily visitors. The bicycle unit embodies the best aspects of the one on one contact of the historical "beat officer" and the benefits of the latest community policing initiatives.

The bike officers strive to be completely familiar with their areas and to facilitate a positive community/law enforcement relationship with persons in those areas by making themselves known and accessible.
