CIP35 – US Route 3 Corridor
North Project Update:
November 21, 2008 Update:
Paving on the
southerly end of Phase 1 concluded this week, bringing the first phase of the
project to substantial completion. Curbing and sidewalk construction is
expected through this week and the first half of next week. Work is expected
through early December - weather permitting - to complete as much sidewalk
construction as possible before the winter break. One lane shifts in traffic
are expected. No work is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day or Friday, November
28th.

November 14, 2008 Update:
Work
continues along Fisherville Road
with drainage construction in the vicinity of Dunkin Donuts and Duncraft this week. Once this drainage work is
complete, preparations will begin to pave the last portion of road work.
Paving is expected early next week from Bog Road to McDonald's - weather
permitting. Traffic will be shifted accordingly so the public should
expect delays. Once the road is paved, curbing and sidewalk work
will begin in the southerly work area. Sidewalk construction in the
northerly limits of the project continues.

This past
week, survey began on the next phase of the work (Bog Road to Lake Street), with the intent of
design beginning as early as next week. By starting this early,
we expect to get project documents ready for early spring to continue the
work effort southerly by April 2009.
November 7, 2008 Update:
Improvements to the corridor continue. Next
week, drainage construction and conduit work will take place at the
intersection of Fisherville and Bog Roads, along with sidewalk
construction. Paving of the remaining gravel areas is scheduled for
the latter part of next week.
Additionally, this past week, crews paved the worst sections of North State Street
and Village Street
affected by last year’s severe winter weather. Pavement overlays were
completed on North State Street
from Foster Street
to Rumford Street,
Call Street
to Dolan Street,
and Lake Street
to Sewalls Falls Road;
as well as Village Street
from Abbott Road
to Bonney
Street.

October 24, 2008 Update:
Curb
installation along the northern areas of the project has been
completed. Slab removal and road boxing continues south to Bog Road and is
nearing completion. Traffic will be shifted to one lane during work
hours. Drainage between Irving/McDonald's and Bog Road will begin on Monday and
continue through next week. Sidewalk construction will also
continue through next week. Two lanes of traffic will be shifted
around those work areas, with reduction down to one lane, at times, to get
by drainage construction as necessary.

October 17, 2008 Update:
Slab
removal has begun, heading southbound from McDonald's/Irving to Bog Road, and will
continue through next week. Traffic will be reduced to one lane between
7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Curb installation began this week heading
northbound from Irving
to Thirty Pines Car Wash. Two-lane traffic will be shifted, as necessary,
to avoid work areas, with temporary reduction to one lane when sidewalk work
occurs across from the curb installation. National Grid continues their
gas main work between Duncraft and Bog Road, and
should be finished by October 22nd.

October 10, 2008 Update:
Pavement
was placed this week along Fisherville
Road. Crews paved the corridor from just
north of McDonald's to the work line at Thirty Pines. Next week will
bring the same intensive road reconstruction south of McDonald's and will
continue to Bog Road. With
one way traffic at times, the public should expect delays. Many thanks go out to all the residents and
businesses that have endured the construction work.

Fisherville Road
October 3, 2008 Update:
Drainage
installation continues between Penacook
Place and Thirty Pines Car Wash, along with the relocation
of fire hydrants. One-way traffic will be in effect during work
hours. Removal of trees was completed along the southbound side of Fisherville Road,
with minor traffic impacts. National Grid's gas main installation will
continue through next week. Traffic will be down to one lane for a short
pocket, which will move southbound as the work progresses. Work will
commence in front of Irving Gas Station and head south to Bog Road.

September 26, 2008 Update:
Roadway
reconstruction work continues along Fisherville
Road, between Cremin Street
and Mayflower Drive.
Drainage work will continue next week, between just south of Pinehurst Drive (Penacook Place) and C.C. Tomatoes. National
Grid will continue with gas main installation between Bog Road and McDonald's, as they will be
finishing pipe installation, working on the regulator pits, and beginning work
necessary to charge the line and cross services over to the new main. In
all, the project is progressing well thanks to the full support of the public,
as well as the residents and businesses along the work corridor.

September 19, 2008 Update:
Work
continues on Fisherville Road
as part of the US Route 3 Improvement Program. The
contractor continues to remove the concrete slab between the Irving
Gas Station and Mayflower Drive
through next week. Traffic will be shifted to one lane through this
section during construction hours. Drainage installation will continue at
various locations between Mayflower Drive and Thirty Pines Car Wash, with the
largest concentration of work being around Thirty Pines. Traffic will be
shifted to two narrow lanes to get by the work, with temporary shifts to one
lane as drainage crossings are built. Again, the traveling public should
expect delays and is encouraged to seek alternate routes.

September 12, 2008 Update:
Work
continues on Fisherville Road,
north of Mayflower
Drive. Roadway reconstruction on the
northbound side has been completed and work has shifted to the southbound side
this week. Progress on the removal of the concrete slab has been
exceptional. Construction of drainage
and the roadway reconstruction continues simultaneously. Expect to see
the roadway section north of Mayflower in gravel, prepared for paving later
this month, before jumping to the next section south of Mayflower.
National Grid (gas company) expects to begin the replacement of their low
pressure gas main along Fisherville Road, from the Irving Station back to a
point south of the work limits (near Bog Road) next week. The contractors
are closely coordinating their work.

September 5, 2008 Update:
The
contractor continues with the removal of the concrete slab and roadway
reconstruction along Fisherville
Road, just north of Mayflower Drive. Construction
of drainage within the work area, along with the continuation of the removal of
the concrete slab, is expected through next week, along with close coordination
with the utility companies. Although traffic is being
maintained, delays are expected at times. The traveling public is
encouraged to seek alternate routes.

August 29, 2008 Update:
Removal of
the east (or northbound) half of the concrete slab running down the center of
Fisherville Road, between Mayflower Drive and 650 feet north of Pinehurst Drive
(Thirty Pines Car Wash), will begin today, and continue through next
week. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during construction
hours. After hours, traffic heading northbound will be on gravel, and
traffic heading southbound will be on pavement. There will be no work on
Monday due to the Labor Day holiday.

Excavation on Fisherville Rd., between Mayflower and Pinehurst Dr.
August 22, 2008 Update:
This week, Continental
Paving began excavation work along the east side of the corridor, just
north of Mayflower Drive,
including demolition of the existing sidewalk and gravel panel to make way for
the new roadway. Utility companies have been at the site assessing limits
of utility conflicts in an effort to plan for coordinated work.
Continental Paving plans to continue the roadway box construction from Mayflower Drive north,
for the next week or so, in an effort to widen the corridor to accommodate the
shifting of traffic. Two-way traffic is being maintained - some
intermittent delays are expected with the work. Staff hosted a public
construction meeting on August 19th at the Beaver Meadow
School to address
concerns of residents and let the public hear the schedule. The well
attended meeting was productive and demonstrates the City's commitment in
working closely with the neighborhoods.
August 15, 2008 Update:
City Staff,
Continental Paving (CPI) and the City's inspection engineering consultant met
and walked the Fisherville Road
project corridor from Bog Road
to Borough Road
this week in anticipation to start of work during the week of August 18th.
During the walk-thru, staff met with a number of residents and businesses - all
eager to see the improvements get underway. Six (6) new utility poles were set
by Unitil. CPI expects to setup the project office,
initiate the traffic control plan and layout the improvement areas during the
early part of next week with heavier construction to start the by the end of
the week.
August 8, 2008 Update:
Staff
hosted a preconstruction conference on Tuesday outlining the details of the
first phase of the Fisherville
Road project (Bog Road to Borough Road). Continental Paving
is the selected contractor and reports a project start date of August 18th.
Preliminary work including layout, offset control, sign placement and site
reconnaissance is expected next week. A construction meeting has
been scheduled for Tuesday, August 19th at 6:30 PM at the Beaver Meadow
School. Residents,
businesses and the traveling public will be invited to attend to hear the
Contractor outline the construction strategy and what to expect in the coming
months.
August 1, 2008 Update:
A
pre-construction meeting with the contractor and the utility companies is
scheduled for Tuesday, August 5th.
Construction on the first phase of the corridor, between Bog Road and Borough Road, is
anticipated to start the week of August 18th.
Work will continue through December.
July 25, 2008 Update:
Bids
were opened on July 3rd and scope of work negotiations were completed this
past week, enabling the City to enter into a contract with Continental Paving,
Inc. to complete the first phase of the project - Bog Road to Borough Road. Contract
documentation is underway and staff expects to coordinate a pre-construction
schedule with the Contractor and utilities during the first week of
August. Staff will also be coordinating a
neighborhood construction meeting to review the contractor’s schedule
and work limits. Work is expected to begin in early August and continue
through December.
June 2008 Update:
Bid
documents and plans have been advertised and released for bidding for the first
phase of the multi-phased corridor improvement project along US Route 3.
The first phase of the project - improvements along Fisherville Road
from Bog Road to Borough Road include the removal of the concrete road
slab, construction of drainage and sidewalks improvements along with the
installation of traffic signals at Bog Road and Fisherville Road. A
pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for June 17th for bids due back by July
3rd. Once contractor documents are verified, work is expected to begin
early July 2008 and continue through December.
February
2008 Update:
Final
design for the first two phases of the project (North State Street from Penacook Street to Rumford Street and Fisherville Road
from Bog Road
to Borough Road)
is nearing completion. Discussions with utilities and property owners are
underway. The design of the 1st phase of the project is expected to be
complete in early March and released for advertisement and bidding by late
March. Construction along the corridor is expected in late April/early
May. As the Council will recall, the decision to remove the concrete
slab underlying the bituminous pavement was made in February.
The project design was modified to accommodate this scenario.
