The City of Concord is encouraging residents to produce less trash and to decrease the environmental impact of solid waste by adhering to a unit-based pricing system for trash. The City of Concord follows a Pay-As-You-Throw Program that allows Concord residents to not have to pay a flat fee for the entire community's trash disposal, but rather to be in direct control of how much they pay for solid waste based on how much they throw away. The City of Concord requires Concord residents with curbside trash collection to use purple pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) trash bags to offset their costs for solid waste services.
Residents have a strong incentive with this program to decrease their waste by reducing, reusing, and recycling. Unit-based pricing systems, such as PAYT, have been proven to reduce trash volumes. Trash tonnage has reduced by 40% in Concord since the PAYT Program began in July 2009. Pay-As-You-Throw Trash Bags
Purple pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) trash bags are required for Concord residents that receive curbside collection. This is the only acceptable trash bag for trash removal and can be found at several store locations throughout Concord. The more materials that are recycled, the less there will be for disposal in the PAYT bags, which will then save money towards solid waste services. See our trash page for more details
