Parking Enforcement

Parking Sign

Sound parking enforcement is important to the health, safety and economic vitality of the City.  Our dedicated and productive enforcement staff is the heart of our effective parking enforcement program.  A well designed enforcement effort enables the City to maximize its use of the existing parking supply.

Strategic Parking Plan Development
In June 2014, the City engaged the consultant team of Nelson Nygaard / Desman Associates to develop a comprehensive strategic parking plan for the City.

To date, the consultant has reviewed all past City parking studies, completed an inventory of all public and private parking spaces in the study, and has held 10 stakeholder focus group meetings.  Stakeholder forums included City residents, downtown business owners and employees, the State of New Hampshire, the US Federal Court, UNH Law School, landlords and developers, as well as staff from the Parking Division and the General Services Department.

A community "open house" was held on October 6, 2014 to receive public input about the City parking system.  On January 28, 2015, a second public forum was held to preview the consultant's preliminary findings and recommendations for the study.

City Administration plans to present the final study to the City Council in February or March.
